Al Gore's Environmental Solution to an Economic Crisis
Return to In The News
Former Vice President and current contributer to
discussions about the climate crisis, Al Gore, recently submitted
an op-ed piece to the New York Times, which was published
November 9, 2008. In light of the recent election of Barack Obama,
Gore offered advice to the president elect and his captive American
audience regarding solutions to our crises. Gore submits that by
taking concentrated efforts towards alleviating global warming
concerns with renewable energy initiatives, we could also bring
ourselves out of our current economic recession.
"The bold steps that are needed to solve the climate crisis are
exactly the same steps that ought to be taken in order to solve the
economic crisis and the energy security crisis," says Gore. By
pointing out all of the problems that arise as a result of our
dependence on foreign oil, such as our strained wallets, polluted
earth, and wars in the Middle East, Mr. Gore shows us that we are
in need of change: change that has been promised by our 44th
president.
The plan that Gore lays out is designed to "repower America."
Here are Trinity, we feel this is a very powerful sentiment, and
one we are eager to help evoke. The American people have been
surrounded by dismal news of our crumbling financial institutions
at home, horrific battles overseas, and rising energy costs
everywhere. Gore's words are especially powerful because not only
do they indicate a need to revitalize the American spirit and
confidence, but also because we can literally re-evaluate how we
power ourselves.
Why continue to rely on costly foreign oil, when we have the
ingenuity and resources here among the American people to produce
our own renewable energy. The need to draw power from the sun,
wind, and earth has never been so urgent. Gore encourages
incentives for these projects; he advocates a restructuring of our
buildings and our infrastructure to reflect the changes that are
possible; and he addresses the need to help others across the
world adapt similar plans.
He closes his paper with the following statement: "Looking
ahead, I have great hope that we will have the courage to embrace
the changes necessary to save our economy, our planet, and
ultimately ourselves."
Trinity Solar will gratefully embrace Al Gore's challenge, in
hopes of bringing about the changes necessary to Repower
America...one solar electric system at a time.
